Year and number shorthand pronounciation in Spanish?
You can say "El ochenta y cuatro" and people will understand you're talking about the year 1984 if there's enough context. You could say something like "Yo nací en el 84" and people will know you are born in 1984. We use that sort of shorthand for all the years from 1930 to 1999. Before that it sounds weird... At least to me. For other centuries we say the whole number. Columbus reached the Americas in 1492 = Colón llegó a América en mil cuatrocientos noventa y dos. Es el año dos mil diecisiete = It's 2017. More on reddit.com

r/learnspanish on Reddit: Numeral order in Spanish
February 2, 2020 -

I listen to "News in slow Spanish" by Linguistica 360 every week and this week, one of the stories was about the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of Auschwitz's liberation.
I don't really understand how he said "seventy-fifth" in Spanish, I know 'seventy-five' but not seventy-fifth.
Could someone spell it so that I can understand better how to say it? And also, is there a basic rule of how to say 'numeral orders' (I don't know what it's actually called)?
