r/HomeImprovement on Reddit: Shower control on 3 knob control not diverting all water from faucet to showerhead
October 13, 2021 -

Hi HI!

First time replacing something like this. It’s an older 3 knob control with hot and cold knobs on the left and right side and a shower/tub faucet control in the middle.

The hot and cold knobs seem to be working great but the shower control knob only diverts like half of the water to the shower head when opened and still quite a bit comes out of the faucet. The stem I took out looks pretty much the same as the new one I put in so not sure what I’m doing wrong.

Also, does anyone know how to remove the faucet? There is no tension screw on the bottom or anything. I tried to twist it off but it didn’t budge and I don’t want to apply more force until I’m confidant on what to do.

Thanks!

Complete Guide to Shower Diverters: Types, Functions, and Installation Tips
April 16, 2025 - This flexibility gives users the ability to combine shower experiences—for example, running an overhead rain shower with body sprays or switching between a handheld sprayer and a standard showerhead. A six-way diverter is typically operated by a single rotating control with clearly notched positions for each setting. Just like the two-way diverter, it must be used in combination with a pressure-balance or thermostatic mixing valve, as it does not regulate water temperature or pressure on its own. These diverters are often listed as “1 inlet / 3 outlets / 6 functions.” It is essential to ensure that the valve trim includes proper markings and is installed correctly to prevent end-user confusion.

r/HomeImprovement on Reddit: Can a Delta 3-position diverter trim be used for 3 separate functions, or only 2 plus 1 shared?
October 25, 2020 -

My tub/shower has three outlets: rainfall shower, hand held shower, and tub spout. I got a Delta T11851-CZ 3-position diverter, hoping to use it for these three functions. I don't want any shared functions (e.g. tub and hand held at the same time). I want the diverter to use one position for each function separately. Is this possible? Right now, the diverter does rainfall, rainfall/handheld, and handheld. no tub.

The link below shows what the plumbing looks like. Note - the long red PEX on the right isn't hot, it goes to the tub spout. The plumber just ran out of white PEX.

August 26, 2022 -

I just got my first home, and the main bathroom has a tubshower combo with 3 handles. The hot and cold work but the diverter doesn't seem to fully close/work right. It opens fully to the tub but won't close off for only the shower. I was wondering if there is any easy solution or I had the idea of leaving the diverter completely open and putting on a tub spot with diverter to diverter the water to the shower instead. Would that work or is this something I should hire a plumber for? Any advice is greatly appreciated, thank you!

Tub to shower diverter valve options for 3 way control | DIY Home Improvement Forum
I’ve seen a post somewhere (can’t remember if it was here or not) that showed a (quality looking) brass valve between the shower extension pipe and shower head so you could stop the shower flow while the tub fills. I would assume that a standard diverter faucet would work to stop the tub faucet flow while showering but from my experience they rarely shut off the flow 100%. Does anyone have any part recommendations or any other suggestions?

I don’t think it’s typical, but I think it’s a cleaner look than using a pull-up diverter on the tub spout (and they always seem to drip when closed). I know it can be tricky finding a diverter valve with 3 individual stops with none shared.
