After two Trump assassination attempts, candidate safety is a rising concern. Will these new laws help?

I'm a left-wing liberal Democrat, with a right-wing militia in my backyard.

I am exhausted from trying to contact my elected officials about threats of violence against them.

I no longer care.

Congressional Republicans and Democrats were almost murdered on January 6th, and all of the masterminds go free. They are plotting to murder members of Congress again.

I'm not rich. I'm not politically connected. I'm just a voter who's online a lot.

Every time I would try to send a screenshot of a threat into my members of Congress, or to my Governor, I was ignored.

So I'm done.

I can't care more about the lives and liberty of rich politicians more than they care.

How many of us took screenshots of threats, and sent them into Nancy Pelosi's office, or the FBI, prior to her husband being attacked with a hammer?

And all we saw in return was her total hubris and smug responses that she wasn't scared, and that there was no threat.

The Pelosi's didn't even lock their doors to their home.

That doesn't mean they deserved what happened, just means that these politicians live in Ivory towers where they think that nothing bad will ever happen to them.

If you went to work, and there was a violent attack where you were almost murdered, and you found out that half of your coworkers helped Mastermind that attack, would you be sitting in meetings with them days later, sipping coffee and chuckling at their jokes?

Or would you see to it that HELL would not have their asses??

So how can we care about the lives of politicians who will sip champagne at holiday parties with the very people who tried to have them murdered?

Donald Trump said he would be a dictator on day one, and imprison all of his political enemies. He called out Joe Biden by name.

What does Joe Biden do about it? Absolutely nothing. Not a thing. Won't even appoint a real Attorney General to go after criminals.

Biden cares more about bipartisan unity with Nazis, rapists, and murderers, then he does about his own future life and Liberty, let alone American democracy.

All we can do is vote blue. And if that's not enough for these idiot Democratic politicians in leadership to try to protect their lives and Liberty, there's nothing we can do about that.

When Republicans make memes about killing Democrats, it's not my head in the crosshairs of their memes. It's Democratic politicians. And if those politicians care so little for their own lives that they don't want to make arrests, or do investigations, or anything like that, I simply cannot care anymore.

Why do people claim the first Trump assassination attempt was staged and or fake?
Personally, I think a preponderance of all the evidence shows it was a legitimate assassination attemp. But I can also see why it's not a big stretch to believe it was a setup. I don't think it would be nearly as popular if Trump hadn't played up being "shot in the ear" when there is ample evidence now that he didn't get hit by *anything,* he bit his lip when he fell/got tackled by the Secret Service. But the actual argument for it all being a setup is retroactively applied because of what happened after. You start with everyone *immediately* talking about how an attempted assassination was a game winning shot for Trump. The national sympathy for him getting shot at would catapult him to re-election, no doubt about it. Well if that's true, and everyone is claiming that was obvious even before-hand, then why wouldn't Trump *want* an assassination *attempt,* if it could be controlled properly? Add to that what appears to genuinely be lax security and defense, especially around an *obvious* shooter location. Even a police officer who allegely thought someone was up there with a gun just didn't seem all that bothered by it. Then you have Trump so SEVERLY overplaying it over the next few weeks, people got sick of it fast. Especially when it became clear he wasn't actually hurt, and didn't actually seem affected by *almost getting shot* AT ALL. He didn't suddenly become the wise, reflective leader the media kept hoping for. And lastly, you have consideration of the caveats. Would Trump actually care if someone died in the process of getting him re-elected? Hell, we already have the answer to that. He doesn't give a ****. He is definitely the kind of person who would sacrifice a supporter to gain sympathy. And for lesser things than getting elected President. More on reddit.com

Ryan Routh found guilty of attempting to assassinate Trump
A jury found Routh, 59, guilty of all charges, including the attempted assassination of a major presidential candidate and a range of firearm offences. The incident happened on 15 September 2024 as Trump, then a presidential candidate, was playing golf on a course he owns in West Palm Beach, about 15 minutes from his Mar-a-Lago residence. A US Secret Service agent spotted a rifle barrel poking out of the bushes and fired on the man holding it - later identified as Routh - who then fled the scene.
