I understand this can be a difficult question without knowing my normal power usage, I don't really know, but I live in a house with 5 people (including myself) and I I'm just gonna say we use 30kw a day, will be less when I Go solar, for a while it will just be me, and maybe my mom. I am planning on building a house within the next few years and wanting to go solar powered with a 10kw system. I was wanting to know if I plan going just solar with a 10kw system, just assuming I get at least 30kw a day, from the panels, what type of batteries should I use, and how many? I want to be able to do normal household things like cook, wash clothes, ac/heat. Looking at prices I might go with a 20kw system, as I do have plans in the future that will require a bit more electricity, and I'm pretty certain that 20kw will be enough, but to start I want 10kw. But I'm just now sure about the battery storage.
I have am 11,000 watt off grid system. Just two people in my 1500 sq ft mobile home. I have six 5.12 kWh batteries. On sunny days they are at 100% by 2:00 pm. Just running my two window A/Cs (one that I turn off when I go to bed) a refrigerator and an upright freezer by morning they are at 35%. If they are not fully charged or I have an unusual load my inverters have to use the built in grid pass through to boost the charge. You can get individual 5.12 kWh batteries and add as you need more. There are stack able larger batteries but of course they are heavier. I got all my parts from Signature Solar in Texas. Completely offgrid for power. We went from 2kW of solar and 10kW of batteries on a 24 volt system to a 48v system of 8.5 kW of panels and 40kW of LFP batteries and it is absolutely life changing. We run the well, house, washer/dryer, heat pump, pottery studio, including kiln firing, and charge our phev vehicle. Voltage rarely drops below 50v and the backup diesel generator has not come on in over a year. Even in cloudy, rainy weather, northern California, lots of sun. It is amazing.

For off grid you can not use average usage, you have to use peak usage. We have no way of knowing were you are located, the shadows or azimuth or pitch of your situation either. More on reddit.com
