Hi! I'm thinking about building a simple fire pit, i'll probably use it once every two weeks during winter, is it categorical to use fire-bricks? What's the dangers/problems with using normal ones? I ask because the first ones are very expensive, thank you.

So I'm building my own fire pit in my back yard. I built a base of 12x12 bricks, which is on flat dirt. Then I am building the walls of it using these bricks:

I used 16 of the 12x12 bricks to make a 48inX48in base. These smaller bricks I'm building on top of that base around the edge. They are only 4in wide, so the inside of the fire pit currently measures 40inX40in.

This fire pit is really to be used for the express purpose of burning logs, and maybe roasting some marshmallows. I'm not looking to do anything ridiculous with it.

That being said, do you think I should invest in fire bricks to line the inside of this? Or maybe a steel lining? Or am I probably fine with the bricks that I have? If I do gotta buy those other things, what do you recommend so I can do it cheaper? I can't seem to find fire bricks for cheap.

The fire pit will likely be used 1-2 times per month on average and I would like it to last maybe 5+ years.

EDIT: I called my local brickyard and they were selling 9"x4" fire bricks for $1.09 per unit. Bought 100 units, and some fireproof mortar and I'm gonna line the inside of the fire pit with it. I will update you all when it's done!
