Expectations for Dune movies/shows
I would place God Emperor of Dune on tier above Heretics of Dune, and Chapterhouse: Dune. Because it is its own thing. It's not like the books before it, or after it in the series. It's IMHO the best of them (as a book). Wheras the last 2 are pulpy (as books) but likely more filmable, because they full of action, including sex and superheroics. And sex superheroics. Or if you group by historical era, GEoD stands alone. The other books do not, they are in groups. More on reddit.com
How “film-able” is the rest of the Dune series?
Messiah and Children could work. I could see God Emperor as an HBO limited series or something. I don't know if five or six would work...they're just so weird, especially the sex stuff. The problem is that Dune lends itself very well to a movie because on the surface it is a pretty classic heroes journey, but the books after that get increasingly away from that. It's what makes them work, but from a movie studio perspective it makes them riskier. Messiah can work because it would have a lot of continued actors...Children can work if a hypothetical Messiah made money. But God Emperor is where things get weird (in a good way, mostly), but I have a hard time seeing it as a big budget theatrical movie. An 8 episode series? Maybe. After that, I dunno, 5 and 6 are not my jam personally. More on reddit.com

‘Completely unfilmable’: the Dune universe is about to get weird | Movies | The Guardian
February 3, 2025 - Nor is it the original Star Wars, which smartly ends with the defeat of the Empire and (until they ruined everything with the prequel trilogy) the sense that everyone will now live happily ever after. This is Dune, a six-book epic stretched over thousands of years and dozens of planets in which major protagonists transform into giant human-sandworm hybrids, sexy witches try to use their auto-pulsing vaginas to (literally) conquer mankind and major characters keep being brought back from the dead as zombie-clone-stooge versions of their past selves. It is beyond weird, and there is a very good reason Villeneuve himself has so far only committed (and it is a very loose committal) to adapting Herbert’s second novel, Dune: Messiah, after this one.
