Help calculating how much tile I need - am I missing something here?
How do I calculate how many tiles I need for my living space?
Well the first step is to measure the room space. Example: Room Floor 1 is 10’ x 10’ which = 100 sq ft Now go pick your tile out and make sure to get 100 sq fit. Buy a little more to ensure you have enough in case of tile breaks, cracks, etc. Best of luck

How much extra tile do you need?
For the average installation, 10% extra is usually fine. For a pattern, 20% extra is recommended.
How many tiles are in a box?
This depends on many factors, from the size of the tile to the manufacturer. You may have anywhere from 10 tiles to 90 tiles in one box.
What is the standard tile size?
There is no single standard tile size. Tiles may be in any measurement from ⅜” to 48” square, with many rectangular, diamond, and even circular measurements in between.

Want to install a backsplash in my kitchen. The area I want to cover is 19" tall by a total of 263" long.
Looking at these 3" x 6" tiles from Lowes.
When I use their calculator, it's telling me I need close to 400 tiles.
My thinking is 263" * 19" = 4,997 sq. inches.
4997 (total area) / 18 (tile area) = 277.6
Even if I added an additional 10% for screws ups and whatnot, I'd come out to like 305 tiles. Is my math correct here or am I not thinking of some factor?
