In January 1991, a Miata with no options stickered for $14,400. This was a car with no radio, no air conditioning, no power steering or power windows or floor mats. That would be $32,651 today. I paid $12,700 for mine (slow sales month at the Mazda store) which would be $28,788 today. A new Miata today starts at $28,050. They all come with a stereo, and air conditioning, and power windows / power steering. IDK about floor mats. Did a truck like the one you want cost $30k new? Yeah, at some point. The 2010 Silverado was around $30k, in LT trim. That's $42k in today's dollars. The new one has an 8- or 10-speed automatic, and 310+ hp, and it will tow 6,700 lbs, and when you're not towing it'll get 21 or 22 mpg. The $30k Silverado of your fondly-remembered dreams might have had the 4.8 liter V8 with 302 hp, and that 4-speed automatic, and it would tow 5,500 lbs, and get 19 mpg as a 4x4. Crazy as it seems, you're probably better off now. Answer from YeahIGotNuthin on reddit.com

I'm a millennial. I've only been in the car buying market since it's been really bad. I have no idea what "good" prices are. I know today to get say a half ton, 4door, mid trim, 4wd under 50k miles and under 5 years old truck you'll to be paying over 40k. Did a truck like this used to cost 30k?? What'd you pay for your rude in the "good" days of used car buying

Also a millennial. My last purchase was in 2015 and car buying In general was easier. In 2015 I my mid trim 2014 blacked out ram 1500 quad cab from a Benz dealer for $20k with zero down and was complaining that they screwed me on the 6% interest rate. I had this mindset because a year prior, I got a Brand New 2015 mustang with zero down and 2% interest that I negotiated from 26k to 20k. I was a college senior working part time back then. Things used to be easier..
The logic of buying a older used car (1999-2005) vs. a newer used car (2009-2015)?
If you are car handy enough to do small repairs or know enough to not take the car to the dealer you are for sure better off getting the 3k car that was well cared for and has life left. What the older car, 1999 can’t do for you is be as safe as a newer car. Things like abs brakes, stability control, and better integrity in a crash. More on reddit.com
The current average car price in the U.S. is $37,851. Am I the only one sickened at even the thought of paying that much for a -CAR-?
It’s not just you. I’m also flabbergasted that they’re now allowing 84 month loans for cars. 7 years?!? For a car?!?
The most I’ve ever paid for a car was about $10K, and I feel like I overpaid for that one.

Went to a dealership to see cars and they showed me a used car 78k miles for a 2021 model. A new model same car was only $4,000 more. This is a strange market. More on reddit.com

Bear in mind that not all of these vehicles will be enjoyable to drive at the base level, and a pricier trim upgrade may be tempting. Since dealers tend to add at least a few options for their regular inventory, it may be hard to find stripped versions, or you may even have to special order the car to your specifications.
