r/YoutubeMusic on Reddit: YouTube Music pays more for artists than GPM, Apple Music and Spotify
August 5, 2020 -

I have seen many people thinking that Google changed its service from GPM to YTM because it can pay less for artists. But that's not true. Here is the source:- https://soundcharts.com/blog/music-streaming-rates-payouts

A line from the article:- Youtube is a multi-sided platform in terms of payout. There are at least three separate payouts under the brands’ umbrella: per YouTube Red/YouTube Music stream ($0.008), per video-stream on the official artist’s channels ($0.00164) and videos monetized through Content ID ($0.00087).

So YouTube Music pays $0.008 and next is Apple Music which pays $0.005 per stream. Anyhow Napster, Tidal and Amazon Music are best in terms of paying to artists.

Still it doesn't change the fact that YouTube Music app sucks in usability comparing to GPM.

YouTube Music streams from video views
A couple of things here. When you distribute on CD Baby, anybody that uses your song will automatically be attached to that song through YouTube music, and it will get registered for potential payment. However I'm not sure where you heard YouTube pays more than Spotify but it is the opposite. I've been with CD Baby for 20 years, and I really like them as a distributor. 👍👍 Below is a link to a payout per stream service list. https://virpp.com/hello/music-streaming-payouts-comparison-a-guide-for-musicians/ More on reddit.com

How much money does YouTube pay musicians? - Quora
Answer: YouTube doesn’t pay musicians. They pay content creators, and they don’t pay them very much. I refuse to click on clickbait titles, and I don’t follow channels that exist simply to post commercials in between the commercials that YouTube inserts into the middle of posts.

Do artists get paid when their songs are played on YouTube videos? - Quora
Answer: I believe they do when their channels are monetized. For the record, the Vevo channels that are on YouTube is often the official channel for that artist. Therefore, since it is their channel, it is often monetized. I am sure they get atleast a royalty payment when the video is clicked on.

Payments will fluctuate each month, depending on the amount of subscription revenue generated and how often your music was streamed.
