In the past, I've always had to activate new or updated cards in my online account, or in the old days, by phone. They also don't accept travel plans either--they just know somehow. I recently got a new CSP and I was able to add it to my Google wallet before I'd even received it. Then when I did receive it, I immediately left on a trip and have been using it in Europe with no issues.
