How to add Bluetooth audio to a pre-2016 Sony TV?
There are USB Bluetooth adapters that work like USB headsets (but you should check if your TV supports USB audio devices). If they're connected, audio will go through the adapter automatically, if they're not, the TV will handle the sound. Note that it's not a regular USB Bluetooth adapter that you would connect to a PC for instance to connect keyboards or mice. It has to be audio only because the TV doesn't even know it's Bluetooth, for the TV is just a USB audio adapter. More on reddit.com

February 7, 2024 -
I have a wall mounted TV that has very limited access to the back of. The TV doesn't have Bluetooth but I have an adapter that can plug into the TV's USB port and the TV's headphone socket so I can listen to the TV's audio through Bluetooth headphones.
The problem I have is that if I plug the 3.5mm plug into the socket, there is no sound from the TV. That's a problem because it takes a LOT of fiddling to get the plug into the socket and then back out again due to the VERY limited access to the area of the socket.
Is there some sort of adapter I can plug into the audio socket and leave plugged in, so there is audio from the TV speakers until I plug in the Bluetooth audio plug?

Yes, you'll be able to use TOSLINK (optical) without affecting anything. So more likely you'll just need a new bluetooth adaptor that accepts toslink.

November 14, 2025 - If your wireless headphones lack aptX Low Latency support and you notice AV sync issues, you can try connecting the Bluetooth transmitter directly to your AV source device (if it has a 3.5 mm or optical audio output), which may cut down on some lag created when the signal has to pass through the TV’s audio processor. Or, consider dedicated wireless TV headphones designed specifically for this purpose. The B03 supports audio pass-through. In addition to its 3.5 mm audio input, the B03 has two optical digital-audio ports: one input for connecting to your TV and one output for connecting to a soundbar or other audio-playback device.
