r/DIY on Reddit: Help! New fire pit
November 10, 2023 -

We just installed pavers in our backyard and were given a “free fire pit” by our contractor. As you can see it’s just stacked pavers on top of pavers. Before I start lighting fires in it what do I need? I’ve seen videos on removing lower bricks and putting an insert in with holes drilled along the top to make it smokeless but what about the base? What else am I missing here? Lava rocks? A base? Am I overthinking or under thinking this? Any and all advice is welcome and THANK YOU in advance for the help!

r/landscaping on Reddit: Building a block fire pit that uses 20lb propane tank instead of underground pipe
February 2, 2021 -

I'm in the process of building my own patio; the retaining wall is complete and before the pavers go down i want to build a firepit out of left over SRW blocks. I plan on purchasing a fire pit burner kit that works with 20lb propane tanks. My home has natural gas but I do not want to run a line underground for this (it would be too long of a run and for something we don't use frequently enough). I'm surprised by how little information there is online about using a small propane tank to fuel a block fire pit. Rather than burying the line under the patio and coming up where the tank will sit, I'm hoping for a quick connect option - like a quick connect coupler that sticks out of a block on the back of the firepit that lets me easily connect/disconnect the hose from the firepit itself. Most guides I see online show the opposite - disconnecting the hose from the propane tank, which in my scenario, would leave me with a hose sitting on the patio leading to the fire pit but not connected to anything. Does anyone have any ideas on how to do this or if what I'm planning doesn't meet code?
