Hi all,
I think I have gone down a rabbit hole.
Basically, my class have done a load of exams. I can easily work out the class average as the results come in like (marks) Pupil A = 12, Pupil B = 13 etc.... I can work an average out even with my basic maths. I could even have a crack at Std deviation (yet unreliable for such a small class size).
The Tests that we do, also provide results for the national data. But the data is provided like this ( a snip). Mark on the left, how many people achieved it on the right... obviously goes up to the full amount of marks of... whatever it is. So the amount
So the question is..... How to make a an average from that? If I was to write out '1' 173 times, '2' 223 times etc... I could, but not sure how to like this.
A graph showing the national distribution of marks
I added a polynomial trendline... cus it looked right.... Does the peak of that line show me the average?
Basically, I want to then split that curve into for sections... Working below, Working towards, Expected and the Higher standard. Using the national data to help me make that decision. Might have to just do it by eye!
I am a little out of my depth tbh, so please be kind.
