If you scroll down and expand t-Test, under the unequal variance section you will find. The following formula is used to calculate the degrees of freedom, df. Because the result of the calculation is usually not an integer, the value of df is rounded to the nearest integer to obtain a critical value from the t table. The Excel worksheet function T.TEST uses the calculated df value without rounding, because it is possible to compute a value for T.TEST with a noninteger df. Because of these different approaches to determining the degrees of freedom, the results of T.TEST and this t-Test tool will differ in the Unequal Variances case. More on reddit.com

Does t-test formula in Excel return the t-value or the p-value?
Does t-test formula in Excel return the t-value or the p-value? What does the help on the function say? Take a look at the t-value and the degrees of freedom in R's output. Basically, excel t-test formula returned a value similar to R-studio p-value Are you asking why they're not identical? Look at the documentation of R's t.test function. It quite literally tells you what it's doing. What does it say it's doing? What does it tell you about how to get it to do different things to its default? Details: ... If ‘var.equal’ is ‘TRUE’ then the pooled estimate of the variance is used. By default, if ‘var.equal’ is ‘FALSE’ then the variance is estimated separately for both groups and the Welch modification to the degrees of freedom is used. i.e. by default it doesn't do an equal-variance two sample t-test, but instead does a Welch t-test. 2. Look at the documentation of Excel's function. They're not (by default) doing the same thing. R can do the equal-variance test by setting var.equal=TRUE Excel can also do the unequal variance (Welch) t-test. e.g. see here: https://statisticsbyjim.com/hypothesis-testing/t-tests-excel/ More on reddit.com

Why would you need an F-test here? A simple independent samples t-test will do the job just fine. EDIT: You probably mean Levene's test which is basically an ANOVA using the distances from the mean as the DV and therefore uses an F-statsitic. Yeah you seem to have done it right More on reddit.com

What is the difference between a chi-square test and a t test?
Both chi-square tests and t tests can test for differences between two groups. However, a t test is used when you have a dependent quantitative variable and an independent categorical variable (with two groups). A chi-square test of independence is used when you have two categorical variables.

How to calculate a p‑value in Excel, R & Python
April 24, 2025 - By enabling the Toolpak, you can perform complex analyses and obtain p-values without diving into manual calculations. But here's a tip: when interpreting p-values, always consider the significance level (α) and the type of test you're conducting. A p-value less than or equal to α suggests you should reject the null hypothesis—indicating a statistically significant result. However, it's essential to understand the assumptions behind each test, like data normality and variance equality, to ensure your results are accurate. Excel's built-in functions and the Data Analysis Toolpak streamline the process of calculating p-values, empowering you to make data-driven decisions.

here is an excerpt from Microsoft support regarding the difference. It has to do with the degree of freedom which is rounded by the analysis toolpak but not rounded by the ttest/t.test function. I don't have a better explanation, but have poked around and confirmed this is the case from your data and what's been said online. Ttest is likely more accurate from this basis.

"This analysis tool performs a two-sample student's t-Test. This t-Test form assumes that the two data sets came from distributions with unequal variances. It is referred to as a heteroscedastic t-Test. As with the preceding Equal Variances case, you can use this t-Test to determine whether the two samples are likely to have come from distributions with equal population means. Use this test when there are distinct subjects in the two samples. Use the Paired test, described in the follow example, when there is a single set of subjects and the two samples represent measurements for each subject before and after a treatment.

The following formula is used to determine the statistic value t.

Because of these different approaches to determining the degrees of freedom, the results of T.TEST and this t-Test tool will differ in the Unequal Variances case."
