Price per piece is a stupid way to evaluate sets
Price-per-piece is a (estimative and flawed) way to compare Lego sets to each other, not to other random toys up and down the price ladder. All the normal marketing issues (production, boxes, etc.) are universal to toys, and have always been factored in. Use a calculator if necessary and check the per unit pricing for products at store. The $ per ounces etc... also watch out on Amazon, they often mislabel products costs per weight or unit.
I have noticed more and more online that the larger quantities aren't cheaper per unit. It's like the seller knows we all think you get the deal when you buy in bulk and the seller is hoping we don't do the math. More on reddit.com

Should I compare product size before buying?
Comparing product size before buying can come in handy in determining which one would be more cost-effective, especially if there are multiple size options.
You don't want to buy something too big, which you didn't need, just because it was cheaper. In that case, opt for the middle or medium-sized product.
