Standard deviation and sample mean from table?

Obviously you can't get the exact numbers, because you only have ranges, but you can estimate by using the midpoint of each range. If you have a column with the midpoint of each range then:

=SUMPRODUCT(midpoint column, frequency column)/SUM(frequency column)

...would give you the mean.

How do I find the Sampling Distribution of the Mean?
Empirically, take hundreds of random samples from a population. You could use Excel for this. For each sample, calculate the sample mean. Then graph the distribution of all those sample means: the sampling distribution of the mean. So, if that is what you meant, then you do not need to know the standard deviation (or anything else) upfront. More on reddit.com

You can also use a single array or a reference to an array instead of arguments separated by commas. STDEV assumes that its arguments are a sample of the population. If your data represents the entire population, then compute the standard deviation using STDEVP. The standard deviation is calculated using the "n-1" method.

We can see that the sampling distribution is bell-shaped with a peak near the value 5. From the tails of the distribution, however, we can see that some samples had means greater than 10 and some had means less than 0. We can also calculate the probability of obtaining a certain value for a sample mean, based on a population mean, population standard deviation, and sample size.

How to calculate variance in Excel – sample & population variance formula
May 10, 2023 - A value of 0 means there is no variability, i.e. all the numbers in the data set are the same. The bigger the number, the more spread out the data. This example is for population variance (i.e. 5 tigers are the whole group you are interested in). If your data is a selection from a bigger population, then you need to calculate sample variance by using a slightly different formula. There are 6 built-in functions to do variance in Excel: VAR, VAR.S, VARP, VAR.P, VARA, and VARPA.
