Theoretically, your inverter can support an infinite number of batteries….or more succinctly, an infinite number of batteries can support your inverter. Different experts will have differing opinions on what is the best amount of batteries to install but a good way to think about it is calculating the length of time autonomy. If you had no power being generated by solar panels (or whatever power source available) to charge the batteries, how long would the fully charged batteries last, given the typical loads you plan to put on them? Many people think three days is appropriate. So you need to start by doing an energy audit regarding your typical usage (which can be wildly different for different people/households) and then figure out your optimal autonomy, and your budget. I don’t know how old your existing battery is but in general, experts don’t recommend mixing batteries of different ages in a bank. Formula for sizing solar panel to Battery?
I think you have you units mixed up on power usage. Ah is relative to the battery voltage so the about of energy is different when the voltage is different. But say the camera uses .25amp@12v x 24h thats 6ah. And when youre charging via solar you need to collect that 6ah of power within your solar window. A ballpark estimate is usually 5h but its location dependent. If we take that 6ah@12 its 72wh, then fake that 72wh/5h=14.4. so on a clear sunny day a 20w panel should be enough. But not every day is clear and sunny so need to increase battery capacity and solar input to compensate for overcast and cloudy days. Edit: had all my numbers doubled. More on reddit.com
