bought a secondhand couch, how do I clean it? : r/Frugal
September 15, 2022 - For the rest of the couch, use a mixture of rubbing alcohol, dawn dish soap, and water and spray all over and then use a wash cloth or brush to scrub it down or an upholstery cleaning machine if you have one. I flip couches as a side hustle and this is what I do.

Just bought this gently used couch from a Habitat for Humanity Restore. Any tips for a general clean? It’s not necessarily dirty, but just wondering for a fresh start and for future reference what some good cleaning tips are for a couch like this. Tia!
Hi there I’d recommend renting a steam cleaner or borrowing a Bissel from a friend with an upholstery attachment. I’ve had several cloth couches and the best, and only way to give it a good clean is with a hot steam clean. Spray on some stain remover if there’s spots, make sure you use the correct soap and it’ll come out looking and smelling like new. A bit of work but i promise it will be 100% worth it. You’d also be surprised at how much dirt they can retain while looking relatively clean! Upkeep from there I usually vacuum under and on the cushions, and spray with febreze once and a while. How do you sanitize or clean fabric couch?
Baking soda and vinegar mixed will never do anything. They react instantly and the acid in the vinegar is consumed. The baking soda is converted from sodium bicarbonate to sodium acetate, water, and carbon dioxide. Mixing baking soda with vinegar is like trying to clean with salty water. Absolutely useless. Furniture is a giant foam pad wrapped in a single sheet of fabric. You simply can not adequately clean it with just a rag. You can not rinse the loose poly fill/foam without a machine able to inject and extract water and detergent. More on reddit.com
