long post alert I currently have the SB 900 w/ 700 bass module and just recently added the 700 surrounds. Bose’s website has them new for $600 and I was able to use my student discount and get them for like 520. They are definitely underwhelming at that price point but they do make a very noticeable difference in my listening experience. I chose the 360 degree audio 700s over the cheaper direct audio cubes because my listening area has a 10’ space between the back wall and they really help to fill it with sound. If you have a wall close to or right up against the back of your listening area or if it’s a smaller space in general, I would say the standard cubes would be more than enough. I feel like the 700s have greater flexibility in where you can position them and they definitely are sleek and produce good sound for being not much bigger than an iPhone. I originally had them ceiling mounted which gave a general rear/overhead ambient surround sound. I found some Sanus floor stands on Amazon for $50 that I was able to make work with them and have noticed they sound more surround soundish now. The matrix resurrections had some good scenes where bullets and rockets transitioned flawlessly between the bar and speakers. I don’t know if Bose plans to release a new series of accessory speakers to accompany the atmos from the 900 but I still have over 2 months on the return policy in case word gets out that they are releasing new surrounds. Do make sure you run adaptiq with either choice. I had it turned off because it causes a major decrease in subwoofer output but ended up using a huge blanket and some pillows while running it again and this worked. Now everything is working in harmony, the output is still a little less than pre-adaptiq but the better timing produced from it is worth the minor decrease in overall loudness. I only have experience with the 700 speakers, and honestly I find them mostly underwhelming. Don't get me wrong, the do the job and there are times that I'm impressed with the surround sound, but mostly they're just ok. Minor sound coming from the rear. I have mine set to max volume and they still don't really stand out unless it's cranked fairly high. Personally I expected more from them but maybe that's just me. For 700 bucks though you kinda expect to be wowed.
