Hi, before i buy the tab a7 10.1" i was just wondering if it can be hooked up to a monitor or tv via usb c to hdmi??? i know that some tablets dont support this so i thought i'd better ask first :-)

You can't directly use usb-c to hdmi, but there is a workaround. Using an app called displaylink. Free on the android store to download. To use the app you'll have to buy a compability hardware which is on their website. The one i bought was this wavlink link . I've already have a usb-c to usb-a adapter so if you don't have one you'll have to get one. This method will allow any android device to share the screen via hdmi.

So i just got this tablet a few days ago, along with a USB-C > HDMI cable for my TV, to be able to use it in a dock...
Problem is, either the cable itself doesnt support video output... or the tablet doesnt.
I've researched around on how to just mirror my display to my TV or even my PC monitor, but it refuses to even show a picture. The screen/TV flickers when i hook it up tho, so at least it's getting a signal, but... (It's a fairly old TV with no WiFi or other Smart access features, if that matters)
I can screenshare/remote access just fine on my computer without the cable over wifi, so...
Any ideas?

My apologies if this has been answered before. I did try to search first but this is all a bit confusing to me.
I'm trying to find a tablet that I can connect to my TV. At first I read that I would need something "HDMI alt mode" compatible. Now I'm reading about something called Dex mode and I don't know if that's the same thing or which one I need if they are different. I'm also struggling to determine what device would do what I am wanting.
I'm hoping for something that will mirror whatever content I am playing on the tablet to my TV when connected by a USB - C to HDMI cable. The content would consist of streaming apps (Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc.) and YouTube.
I'm considering a Samsung S7 (or variation of that) or S8 (or variations).
Is it possible to get a device that does what I want? If so, am I on the right track with my choices?

Yes, the Tab S7 or S8 will do that with a TypeC to HDMI cable. You will have two options of displaying. You can either do a straight screen mirror or you can extend your tablet to the TV. Meaning your tablet will be in tablet mode, and the TV will be in DEX mode with separate apps on both screens.

Good information provided in this thread. If you get something like a USB-C hub like this , it will do the job. They have HDMI out, a couple of full size USB ports, a USB-C port for connecting your charger, and some have a headphone jack and SD card slots. You can then connect your Tab to your TV with it, and you can do one of two options: screen mirroring mode, where the TV will be a mirror of what is on the Tab's screen, or extend your Tab's screen to the TV in DeX mode. DeX mode basically turns the UI into a desktop PC-like layout with a taskbar and resizeable windows. The Tab S7/+ or S8/+/Ultra should all be able to do this, so can any of the Galaxy S series of phones from the S8 onwards. Hope any of this helps.
