My apologies if this has been answered before. I did try to search first but this is all a bit confusing to me.
I'm trying to find a tablet that I can connect to my TV. At first I read that I would need something "HDMI alt mode" compatible. Now I'm reading about something called Dex mode and I don't know if that's the same thing or which one I need if they are different. I'm also struggling to determine what device would do what I am wanting.
I'm hoping for something that will mirror whatever content I am playing on the tablet to my TV when connected by a USB - C to HDMI cable. The content would consist of streaming apps (Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc.) and YouTube.
I'm considering a Samsung S7 (or variation of that) or S8 (or variations).
Is it possible to get a device that does what I want? If so, am I on the right track with my choices?

Good information provided in this thread. If you get something like a USB-C hub like this , it will do the job. They have HDMI out, a couple of full size USB ports, a USB-C port for connecting your charger, and some have a headphone jack and SD card slots. You can then connect your Tab to your TV with it, and you can do one of two options: screen mirroring mode, where the TV will be a mirror of what is on the Tab's screen, or extend your Tab's screen to the TV in DeX mode. DeX mode basically turns the UI into a desktop PC-like layout with a taskbar and resizeable windows. The Tab S7/+ or S8/+/Ultra should all be able to do this, so can any of the Galaxy S series of phones from the S8 onwards. Hope any of this helps.

I am currently trying to get a Samsung tablet to show its screen on a TV, to help someone who is visually impaired. I have a USB C to Hdmi cable, which is plugged in at both ends and the tv is on the right setting, but it won’t show the screen? I’ve googled it and it says I’ve done the right steps. What am I missing?

You're missing the part where you forgot to ask if your tablet can do it in the first place. For example none of Samsung's Tab A series had that feature. Most of the Tab S can do it, but exceptions like the S6 Lite can't.
