Check the care tag. If it can be washed/dried, and it's too big for your washing machine/dryer, wash it at a laundromat since those typically have bigger machines. If it says dry clean only, you might be OK using those dry clean alternatives like Dryel.

I launder down all the time. Here's the deal. Use a big machine with no center agitator. Go to the laundromat if necessary. You don't want to stress the seams or make rips, turning your bedroom or laundry room into a snow globe. I use my regular detergent or woolite, whatever I have on hand. No softener. At all. Add an extra rinse. Or even run another whole cycle with no soap. It must be rinsed completely so the feathers can do their fluffy magic. It will take a few cycles to dry. I dry on low. Again, no softener. Usually a full cycle. Then take it out and rearrange it, put it back in. Another full cycle. Maybe again if there are still damp clumps of feathers. In the very end, if you want to fluff it in the machine, you can add dryer balls to beat it up for maybe 20 minutes. Don't use the dryer balls the whole time, refer back to my advice re snow globes. People have been using down for centuries at least without dry cleaning. That's how you do it.

You can wash a goose down comforter. We inherited one from family members which was top of the line...in 1981. Appeared to be in good condition other than some surface dust from storage.
Took it to a local cleaner who expressed reluctance to clean it. He'd clean it for $65 with a release of liability. Decided against spending the money. Researched how to clean it myself instead.
Use a large capacity washer. If you don't have one, take it to a laundromat and use a washer large enough to cover the comforter with water. Use cold water and a small amount of mild liquid detergent. Set the washer to the gentle/delicate cycle. You can dry it in the dryer with no heat. It will take a few to several cycles. Make sure to take it out of the dryer between cycles and adjust it and make sure it's not winding on itself. Alternatively, you can air dry it.
This 38-year-old goose down comforter is good as new now! And, I saved $65. :) I plan to invest in a good duvet cover to protect it, too.

I’ve always washed mine at the beginning / end of the winter, hung it outside to dry, and then 15 minutes on air fluff with a dryer ball to get it fluffy again. The queen sized comforter has fit in several home washing machines, but washing by hand in a bathtub is always a option too!

Wash it! Also, I completely disagree with the above post – you can totally tumble dry feathers! I literally do it every month. And if you live somewhere damp, and you don’t tumble a dry, you’ll have a moldy mess and you will throw away your comforter. I use tennis balls/dryer balls and a clean dry towel in there. Probably washed about eight different down comforters in my lifetime, and I just washed a very expensive down pillow and all have come out just fine. ETA: low in the dryer for 30-45 minutes and then lowest setting in the dryer until it’s puffy and dry.
