I have the same problem on the Dyson V10 Animal. I was afraid to apply too much pressure on the red tab, which needs to be pushed in the forward direction to open the canister. · I did not want to risk breaking the transparent clip at the bottom of the canister with a screwdriver as recommended above. · I found once I had opened it, I observed that the red clip locks onto an outpouched area on the main device (See picture with green arrow). · I found that the red clip will click forward if I apply pressure simultaneously on the grey column below the red clip (See picture with red arrow) · Hope this helps. · Update (08/19/2019) Answer from Palermo Rex on ifixit.com

Owners of a V11 cordless vac, how much force is needed to empty the canister bin? so I hold the red lever (which seems more of a lever than operating anything) but to empty i need to push down really hard and sort of wiggle it down. I think something is sticking, like maybe the rubber before the engine.
Anyone had this, fixed this?

Thanks Clark · I got it. The pull on mine needs to be up and back. Confusingly the red lever will allow you to push a little both down and forward and up and forward to no avail. Up and back does the trick.

I just had the same thing with mine, which happens when you close the door before reinserting the top. What happens is when you close the top first, there a red lever that needs to be pushed in by the lid. If you reverse this, you miss out on pushing that red tab and it ends up being a nightmare. To fix this, you need to moderately release the canister by pressing on the 1/2” lever at the bottom and moving the canister as much as you can, then, basically pry open the lid. It's terrifying and feels like you're going to break it, but it's just a ton of suction in the middle. Once you have the lid open, you should be able to pull up normally on the large red lever at the top and properly close it (top first, then lid).

2/24/2020 · Following instructions offered below I lay the V8 machine top on newspaper and gently pried the bin open with a thin screwdriver. The top rose as it was supposed to! And yes, once I pressed the top back down, I closed the bin and was then able to move the red tab on top. Everything back to normal ! In 15 emails back and forth with Dyson, not 1 suggested this technique! They are sending me a new Main Body, which I will accept because my machine is new and under warrantee. Lesson learned! DO NOT close bin before top!

I can't get the bin to open properly for emptying anymore. When I push the red lever, the entire canister comes off. I tried purchasing a new canister, but it made no difference. In this gif, it shows the canister coming off pretty easily, but it typically takes quite a bit of force to get it off. Under no circumstances does it open properly for me to empty the canister. Any ideas?

Remove the bin, on the long plastic moon shaped bar, you’ll see the plastic at the bottom broken. That’s the thing holding the bin in place. I had my vacuum replaced under warranty.

Its the bin runner you need. Many screws to take it apart but not a difficult fix if your into DIY.

I found if I take the brush part off the bottom of the stick, it is much easier to remove stick from the bin. I don’t think it has anything to do with cleanliness. I had a V10 previously with no removal problem. The motor died within warranty and it was replaced with V11. It has stuck since day one. There is no problem with the other attachments.
