I just had the same thing with mine, which happens when you close the door before reinserting the top. What happens is when you close the top first, there a red lever that needs to be pushed in by the lid. If you reverse this, you miss out on pushing that red tab and it ends up being a nightmare. To fix this, you need to moderately release the canister by pressing on the 1/2” lever at the bottom and moving the canister as much as you can, then, basically pry open the lid. It's terrifying and feels like you're going to break it, but it's just a ton of suction in the middle. Once you have the lid open, you should be able to pull up normally on the large red lever at the top and properly close it (top first, then lid). Answer from peridot_in_sand on ifixit.com

2/24/2020 · Following instructions offered below I lay the V8 machine top on newspaper and gently pried the bin open with a thin screwdriver. The top rose as it was supposed to! And yes, once I pressed the top back down, I closed the bin and was then able to move the red tab on top. Everything back to normal ! In 15 emails back and forth with Dyson, not 1 suggested this technique! They are sending me a new Main Body, which I will accept because my machine is new and under warrantee. Lesson learned! DO NOT close bin before top!

I just place it low in the trash can and open it that way. If I was truly concerned about the dust and trying to keep it from going too far out of the trash can, I would just step outdoors, or out of my apt and into the hallway, whilst emptying. More on reddit.com

Ok so first thing is to force open the bin flap at the bottom. Go in where the clasp is snd gently prize it open. Once its open you should be able to open it like normal. Once its open remove the cyclones by pressing the red button near the main body then remove the bin. Apply Polish to the back of the bin. Refit the bin Refit the cyclones It should now open as normal. More on reddit.com

So I had the same problem, cylinder wouldn't open to empty bin, and the thing was just jammed. Would not go in or out, just stuck in the middle. Here's how I fixed mine. Hope it helps. See photos

Hi everyone,
I'm currently staying at an Airbnb and have been using their Dyson to clean.
A couple of days ago, I tried to empty the bin. When I pulled the red lever on the top, the lid at the bottom didn’t open. As I kept pulling the lever, the whole cylinder ended up coming out.
I tried putting everything back in place and giving it another go, but once I reinserted the cylinder, it got stuck and I couldn’t open the lid or remove the cylinder anymore.
Now, after a few attempts and fiddling a bit with the top red lever and the smaller red lever (about halfway down) near the bottom, I managed to remove the cylinder again. However, I still can’t get the lid to open so I can empty it.
Any ideas on how to fix this? It’s not my Dyson, so I’m kind of freaking out here, lol.
