I guess between Illustrator, Indesign and Photoshop, there isn't really a proper way to transfer gradients, because all of them handle gradients differently. I kinda don't understand this workflow where you need to do this, but I guess I would just copy & paste the object (or a layer) from one application to another.

Generating CSS (Gradient):

  • Image to CSS Gradient: Ultimate CSS Gradient Generator - ColorZilla.com

    • If you have an image of the gradient, upload it using the import image link and the gradient is converted to CSS.
    • Supports linear gradients that are vertical or horizontal.
  • Photoshop

    1. Copy CSS (native): Right Click layer > Copy CSS
      • Can get a gradient from a layer style or from a shape layer with a gradient fill
    2. CSS Hat
    3. Dreamweaver (CC, I believe) can extract css from a psd.
  • Illustrator

    • Copy CSS (native): Top menu Window > CSS Properties
      • Additional options in the corner menu of this panel.
  • Indesign

    • There is no CSS export for InDesign.

Importing gradients - Adobe Product Community - 11340200
August 6, 2020 - You have to create a new gradient in Illustrator, though you can used those colors in the swatches stops picking up colors with the Eyedropper tool from a raster pixel object placed from Photoshop using those gradients. An alternative is to use Cloud libraries that include those sngle swatches. Or use the standard practice of exporting selected swatches from Photoshop swatches panel as .ase file (Adobe swatches exchange file) that can be use in Illustrator or InDesign too.

How to save a gradient?
Hi there! Rufus from Adobe. It looks like you created a Freeform Gradient. Looks great! Freeform Gradients cannot be saved to the Swatches Panel because they are dependent on the shape you created it on (position of Points or Lines). My advice is to create a CC Library and add the gradient there. That way, you'll be able to use it easily in other Illustrator documents. Or even other apps like Photoshop or InDesign. How to import gradients as EPS files.
You can open them in Photoshop and they will be rendered as bit sos. You HP then need to make swatches from the colours in the image and create a gradient from the swatches. You might find it easier to do this in Illustrator. Again, open the file in Illustrator. If the gradient is. It in the Swatches panel you’ll have to add it. The gradient might not be a true gradient but a series of narrow lines or rectangles in dozens or hundreds of colours. You’ll need to rebuild the gradient. You can save the Illustrator file an open it in the gradients panel in Photoshop. More on reddit.com

June 27, 2021 - My original gradient is a simple yellow > black shape. When I bring it into Photoshop the yellow turns white. Then if I try to rasterize the shape, when I paste it into Photoshop, the black section turns into white! Both files are set as RGB. The only way I'm being able to work with them together is exporting from Ai as JPG and importing the file in Photoshop, but it delays my work, it's counterproductive.
