Shower diverter turns but doesn't divert - Home Improvement Stack Exchange
Well both the knob and the stem ... I took a knob from another shower and tried it here and had the same effect. So my question is what do I do now? Is it possible this issue is deep inside the wall? I mean I want to redo this bathroom eventually but I'd rather not right now. Is there any way to fix this? ... What you show in the pic is a stem extension.. It operates the diverter... Shower control on 3 knob control not diverting all water from faucet to showerhead
Pull the diverter stem, I bet that's the problem. If it's something you got at Home Depot or Lowes or something similar, good luck. If not, with some online sleuthing you should be able to find it. I'm afraid it's a Depot Delta at first glance, but I hope I'm wrong. More on reddit.com

Fix shower Diverter? Only comes out of shower head not the spout
The diverter handle usually just moves a piece up/down to block or unblock the end of the diverter pipe. It looks like the blocking piece is at least partially stuck in the up position and probably disconnected from the handle. If you look up the spout, you may be able to manually free it and pull it down. As for replacing the broken diverter, it’s likely either held in place with a grub screw on the bottom of the diverter near the wall, or the whole thing screws onto the stubout pipe and just twists off. You should figure out which it is before shopping for a replacement to ensure you get the right one. More on reddit.com

r/HomeImprovement on Reddit: Shower control on 3 knob control not diverting all water from faucet to showerhead
October 13, 2021 -

Hi HI!

First time replacing something like this. It’s an older 3 knob control with hot and cold knobs on the left and right side and a shower/tub faucet control in the middle.

The hot and cold knobs seem to be working great but the shower control knob only diverts like half of the water to the shower head when opened and still quite a bit comes out of the faucet. The stem I took out looks pretty much the same as the new one I put in so not sure what I’m doing wrong.

Also, does anyone know how to remove the faucet? There is no tension screw on the bottom or anything. I tried to twist it off but it didn’t budge and I don’t want to apply more force until I’m confidant on what to do.

Thanks!
