Ignore all the advice that you need to start with a pledge loan or flagship account or increase your internal score...all that advice is for people with bad credit or no credit. April 3, 2026 -

Hey guys, so here is my situation, could really use some help here.

Thank you all in advance for taking the time out of your day to read this and offer a random dude some help. Truly appreciated.

I have made sure to provide all the info needed and have provided as much context as I could.

Anyway,

BofA unexpectedly closed 3 of my cards last week, 2 business cards and my Travel Rewards CC. 10 year preferred rewards customer, spoke with 4 different departments, zero explanation. Eh what can you do.

I lost $35k in credit and I'm a bit screwed, needed this credit for some upcoming expenses, (just proposed, getting married soon) and would appreciate any help to fix this situation.

My Travel Rewards CC that BofA closed ($12k limit, 5 years old) reports as closed on April 7th, which will drop my revolving credit by $12k which will drop my score a bit (my score is amazing right now). I have 3 days to make something happen. I want to lock in 2–3 cards ($30-35k) before that happens while my credit is still very good.

My goal:

Replace $30–35k in credit cards. Not chasing rewards. High limits are the priority, 0% interest even better.

Banks I cannot work with right now:

Chase, Wells Fargo, Citi, US Bank, and Amex. This is due to a past identity theft situation, very complicated, won't go into detail but it's taken care of and not reporting on my credit. Just can't work with those banks for another year.

So..

I just became a Navy Federal member today, funded $100. Also applying for a Capital One Venture and Cabela's Business card alongside Navy.

Cards I'm considering at Navy Federal (open to suggestions):

  • Rewards Visa

  • Flagship Rewards Visa (heard this is harder to get approved for?)

  • Platinum (mainly for the 0% intro offer)

CREDIT PROFILE

  • Capital One Platinum — $6,000 — Opened: 08/19

  • BofA Travel Rewards — $12,000 — Opened: 03/21 (reporting closed 04/07)

  • Apple Card — $600 — Opened: 08/19

  • BofA Customized Cash (Authorized User) — $20,000 — Opened: 02/01

  • SoFi Personal Loan — $70,000 — Opened: 06/25

FICO Scores/Credit report:

  • Experian: 789 | Equifax: 807 | TransUnion: 770

  • Inquiries: Experian 0, Equifax 0, TransUnion 2 (SoFi 06/25, BofA 02/26)

  • Income: $184k | Oldest account: 7 years | No new cards in 5 years | No collections | No late payments

My questions:

  1. Which Navy Federal card is easiest to get approved for and most likely to come with the highest limit given my profile?

  2. I ran the pre-qualification tool and it said "not eligible for pre-qualification at this time." I've heard this tool is notoriously inaccurate — should I just apply anyway given my FICO scores and history?

  3. I just opened my membership today and only funded $100. Does that hurt my approval odds? Should I wait or is it fine to apply now?

  4. I'm also applying for a Capital One Venture and Cabela's Business card. Is it smarter to apply for Navy first (1 inquiry) and then do the 2 Capital One applications after? Or does order not matter? Is Navy strict on recent inquiries?

  5. Open to any Navy Federal card suggestions based on my profile — not locked into the ones I listed. Also open to other cards in general as well.

June 15, 2024 -

I see all of these posts about credit card approvals and posts of the scores they got approved with.

Some of the score seem like a given approval rate but I also know that it’s not just your credit score because the score is more about the interest rates and the credit report is a factor as well.

I would like to hear if anyone that got approved with a low Fico 9 and good credit report. Spice it up a bit🤷
