i use the rocket launcher but not very often the problem is it can harm you if the enemys are too close (expect of the stynger). if you are going for a ranger playthrough one little tip for plantera get chlorophyte bullets with the tactical shotgun shroomite armor preferable my main dmg weapon as ranger More on reddit.com

Rocket III's are exactly the same as IV's except they don't destroy blocks. There's no reason to use IV's unless you're clearing terrain. More on reddit.com

I'm sorry I can't really be of much help, but if I had to guess it would involve the empty shells or cases that the gun smith sells and explosive powder?

So, I'm kind of interested in trying a ranger playthrough. I love the fact that there are rocket launchers and similar weapons now, but I never hear of anyone using them (except maybe Rocket IV for terraforming). The damage seems good, so is it just the price of the ammo? Or is there something I'm missing?

I am almost done with my ranger play-through, (still need to beat golem and get shroomite) I don't bother with the rocket launcher because megashark+explosive bullets is amazing.
