Hi. I have similar situation with OP. I bought 7900X3D so I assume I need to flash latest bios to make it work. I formatted my Sandisk Cruzer to FAT32 and also partitioned it so that it size is 24,576MB. Factory size for the Cruzer was 64Gb. Rename the bios file to msi.rom Move it into Cruzer root folder Insert the flash drive into the flash bios port at the back Press and hold the flash bios button for 3 seconds The flash bios button blinks and after about 5 minutes it turned off. Both ezbug LED light constantly stays on and the post counter shows 00. The dragon LED stays on. How do I know if I completed flash successfully? I could not test turning it on normally since my Noctua mount for AM5 hasn’t arrived yet, I could not install the cooler for the cpu, hence I could not install the cpu yet. December 27, 2020 - If this is the X570 Tom, then if the Flashing is finished/successful, there should be no flashing on white LED behind the I/O shield and no activity light on your USB stick. The system should reboot with the chipset fan comes back on again.

r/MSI_Gaming on Reddit: Flashing BIOS for first time - How do you know when it is finished?
May 13, 2023 -

I just bought the MSI MPG X670E Carbon WIFI with a 7950x.

I have not installed the RAM/CPU just yet, but was updating the BIOS to the latest (7D70v172Beta Released 2023-04-28)

I used the 16GB USB stick that came with the board (formatted as FAT32, moved the renamed file to MSI.ROM to the drive)

I held the button for a few seconds and let go, and the button started blinking.

It's been 30 minutes now, I THINK it's done. The button is no longer flashing, and is just off, but the rest of the board is still on (DEBUG code 00. It has been code 00 the whole time since before the flash started). It hasn't rebooted, turned off, anything. Does the motherboard turn off too, or do I just need to wait for the button light to turn off (which it is now) ?

Pic of the backplate

Edit: Thanks. Took advice that since it was off, it was done. I did redo the process again, and this time kept an eye on it. After about 5 minutes, mobo rebooted, then the bios light flashed a couple seconds, then turned off, so ended up in the same state as original.

Press Flashback button, observe LED, wait patiently. Do not interrupt power or remove USB until success indicator. This method is the safest way to update or recover firmware when the system cannot boot or to add CPU compatibility before assembly.
