So losing weight with my Hashimoto’s has been a never ending struggle for me and I weigh more than I ever had before. I just recently joined a kick boxing challenge (three times a week) combined with a diet plan that includes lots of protein, veggies, and fruit. I had my first weigh in and had no progress with losing anything or any body fat and got very discouraged. Wondered if anyone ever has tried a fat burner and had any luck with that (combined with diet and exercise) to lose weight? It also has vitamin b 12 in it as well as vitamin b 6. If anyone has any supplements that they can recommend to me to help boost my metabolism I’d greatly appreciate it. I’m just tired of trying to do everything right and seeing no progress. Just pure exhaustion no matter how hard I push myself.

The Influence of Reducing Diets on Changes in Thyroid Parameters in Women Suffering from Obesity and Hashimoto’s Disease - PMC
This has prompted a search for more effective treatments for obesity in patients with Hashimoto’s disease. The aim of this study was, therefore, to evaluate the reducing/elimination diets based on calorie reduction and the obtained results of IgG1-3 hypersensitivity tests to individual food actigens, in terms of the effectiveness of weight reduction and the impact on thyroid parameters in patients suffering from obesity and Hashimoto’s disease.

How To Naturally Lose Weight With Hashimoto’s Disease
December 9, 2024 - Setting aside for just a second the overall health benefits of better sleep (like lowering stress, improving your mood and brain function, and reducing all-cause mortality), sleep is essential for losing weight, including with Hashimoto’s. Your body needs proper sleep in order to balance your hormones, burn fat, and work on healing and repair. Without enough of it, you’re more prone to increased inflammation, leptin resistance, disrupted cortisol levels, insulin resistance, and other imbalances that contribute to weight gain and autoimmunity.

It takes time. For myself, I do at least a third of my plate as protien, the rest veggies. I eat no more than 2 servings a fruit a day and needs to be paired with a protien. Same thing with snacks, they need to have a bit of protien to balance the sugar spikes. These changes alone, I lose on average of 5lbs a month. I don't do any calorie restrictions, if im hungry i eat. (I also have pcos which has a metabolic component which tends to impede weightloss). Before my disability, I was going to the gym. I stayed motivated by taking measurements of my arms, chest, stomach, hips and legs. These numbers were changing so even though I couldn't visually see the difference and the scale wasn't going down, there was positive change. The scalendid start to move but jot as fast as I was hoping. If you are building muscle, it weighs more than fat. It is good that it helps burn fat at rest so don't get discouraged with this. As for the fat burner. That I can answer. I know I need an active b supplement to feel human (give me energy). If you have nutritional deficiencies, that can affect metabolism.

I worked with an intuitive eating certified dietician who specialized in thyroid and hormone health. I am allowed to eat anything i want (minus gluten) as long as each snack and meal has protein, carb, fiber, fat. She also has me eating breakfast ideally within 30 minutes of waking but at least within 2 hours and eating every 3-4 hours throughout the day. I also was encouraged to eat a snack before bed that was high in fat and protein. She gave me other tips like not drinking caffeine on an empty stomach because it spikes blood sugar. I’ve been doing all of these things for 3 years now and have lost 40 pounds on the scale but have also gained muscle. My exercise routine and type has fluctuated but my weight has stayed about the same (give or take 5-10lbs). (For exercise I was told HIIT is not great for the thyroid and hormones long term so i try to do steady state cardio and strength training) Everything I seem to learn about thyroid disorders says that any kind of restriction (while it may work temporarily) is not good for your health long term. It definitely takes a good amount of time to see a change this way but it was so worth it to me. My life no longer revolves around food and my weight and I wish more people would try it. Best of luck in whatever you decide to do. I’ve definitely dieted most of my life so I completely understand the struggle, no judgement here!
