Candles with ¼" of oil will burn for 3-4 hours. When the candle runs out of oil simply remove the plastic circle, add more oil, place plastic on top and light again. Replace wick as needed. Oil: most types of cooking oils will work (canola, vegetable, sunflower, etc.) You can also use lamp oil. Wicks: we tried several types of wicks and the basic wax-coated ones that we've used in the past for candle projects worked great.

r/witchcraft on Reddit: Quick Tip: Save candle wax with water
February 10, 2019 -

So, i just recently learned this and thought i would pass it along.

This is for your generic jar/container candles, but could be applied to stick/holder candles with some extra steps. I burn a lot of candles for various reasons and end up with the 'ass' of the candle, so to speak. If you pour boiling(or really hot) water into your container, the water and wax separates. That leaves you with that leftover wax on top, which will eventually harden and can be fished out. You want the water to be hot enough so when it hits your jar it wont shatter/crack.

Needless to say, please be careful!(and you probably don't want to try this on a rug)

I use the leftover wax for spell jar sealer, making smaller candles, sigils, and whatnot.

Thanks!
