If you haven't already, just put your podcast everywhere... that's the way a podcast was always intended to be. Never fully rely on someone else's platform for your revenue. I suggest looking into Podcast Index ( https://podcastindex.org ) and the Value4Value concept ( https://value4value.info ), and then pick a great non-platform-specific podcast hosting service that supports generating revenue in multiple ways. (I currently like Blubrry) Host-read ads are the best of ads, but if you are niche enough, go for sponsors. And, if you can develop community, go for V4V. As a voracious podcast listener, ad-insertion is the worst. I like to support the podcasts I love, or hear about great products/services the hosts use and love. Everything else is going to perform much worse. Answer from SteveW928 on reddit.com

Currently I'm hosted with a service that pushes to Spotify and others, but will I be able to earn money that way or would it be better to host directly on Spotify as well as the other site pushing out elsewhere?

I just started my first podcast on Spotify, and I’m pretty new to this whole thing. I hope to get some advice on making money from it. Most of my listeners are from Europe and the U.S., but I’m based in Asia. Any tips on how I can monetize my podcast? I would love to hear your experiences!

Hi everyone!

I've gotten so much great info from reading through all posts in this community. Very appreciative!

I am almost ready to upload, but I'm stuck trying to choose a hosting platform...

My podcast has a mental health topic related to my business. I do not expect to make money for the first year or so, but definitely looking to (even slightly) monetize in the future.

I intend to make weekly 15-20 minute podcast episodes, and I will record both audio and video (going to post video on my youtube channel).

Am currently deciding between Spotify and Podbean, but also open to other options if there's a compelling reason.

While this is an investment for my business, I do not want to pay monthly or yearly fees if it's not actually necessary...so leaning towards Spotify unless there's a reason not to.

Thoughts?

Thanks all!

I am planning to start a technical podcast with one of my friend (he is already having good traffic in YT) and would like to monetize it. Not sure what all platforms support these features. I know Spotify or Youtube can help but is there any other platform which you can use to earn from podcast. Spotify does not allow to set price of specific episodes/podcast. YT can help to earn by Ad revenue only.

Following monetization options we are considering.

  • Sell specific episodes with some amount. Think like comedy show

  • Sell bundle of episodes as a promotion.

  • User have option to choose payment gateway based on their country.

  • Other basic features of podcast hosting like get RSS, share it (after x days of release) with Spotify/YT.

I produce a podcast with ~1.6k followers and ~300 plays per episode on Spotify and growing. I know these numbers are not astronomical (yet) but it does feel like it's time to take the pod to the next level and try and turn it into a source of revenue for the host. I have doubts though:

  • Will ads (host read or not) alienate the audience?

  • Episodes go for an average of ~20 mins, is that too short for ads?

  • Can we choose what brands / companies get to promote their products or services?

  • How do we get the attention of potential sponsors?

  • What's the best hosting platform for ads? Speaker? Others?

  • What about subscriptions?

If it matters, the podcast is in Italian and targeting the Italian market

TIA for any thoughts, tips or advice. I appreciate it.

r/podcasts - At what level do you monetize a podcast? And how?
November 22, 2014 -

A few of you know that ever since I added my podcast feed to spotify my traffic has doubled. Now I'd say it's probably 5-6x it's original levels. Still not anywhere near the big dogs, but yesterday with all my traffic sources combined I got a new high of nearly 900 downloads. Makes me happy!

Typically I get between 300-700 downloads per day now (about 70% of that coming from spotify)

My question is, what are the best ways to monetize and how?

Some of my ideas:

  • I have my own digital products which I plan to push more over the coming months. Right now I don't mention them except sporadically on the podcast.

  • I also have an email list that I try and get people to sign up for and then give helpful info and sell products. I don't sell too much through my list. :(

  • I'm not opposed to sponsorships, but I don't even know how to find someone, or if my traffic levels would be appealing to a sponsor.

I'm happy with the amount of traffic my podcast is getting especially since I spent more than a year getting 10-20 downloads an episode. But sometimes I wonder if the traffic is high quality?

My website traffic has increased some, but not drastically. I also don't have many consistent sales of my products.

What do you all do to make money with a podcast? My first goal right now is to make it so my business is not constantly losing money each month. To do that would require about $270 a month. I feel like I should be able to do that with this traffic?

What am I doing wrong?

Here are some of the options I use currently / have used on older shows. I tend not to go the CPM route through advertising, since my episodes don't get tens of thousands of downloads in the first 28 days. That being said, I make a decent amount through these options. Direct sponsorships are great, because you'e tying direct relevance of your audience to a sponsor, making both sides much more valuable and effective to each other. So, if your niche is the MCU, you can partner with online comic book stores, specialist toy stores, special events, etc, that tie into that fanbase. Your listeners might get special offers from your sponsors for coming direct from your show, and your sponsors gets a much warmer audience that's right for their product, versus a generic ad that may or may not be a fit. If you can go hyper local with sponsorship, even better. Say you have a large audience in a particular state, or even city - are there potential sponsors in that locale that you can say, "Hey, I could potentially drive X amount of foot traffic to your stores, let's talk"? Because that then makes you a very valuable partner for them, and your listeners can shop locally and get a great deal. Then there are Memberships, where you can set up various tiers and offer perks for signing up to those tiers. Exclusive content, early access, ad-free, stickers, live stream specials (be part of the conversation), etc. Anything you want, and members simply pay a recurring monthly fee for that. This is a super effective way of connecting more directly with your listeners, and vice versa - and, if your sponsor comes on board, then premium Members can get exclusive deals just for them. You can also offer one-off donations, tips, etc, for anyone that wants to support but not become a fully-fledged member. These options, and more like them (merch, exclusive online communities, etc) are much more effective than generic ads, down to the direct connection between you, audience, and partner/sponsor/offer, meaning the revenue is also much more. The main thing is, have a diversity of revenue streams - that way, if one dries up or isn't really effective, you have more options to pull from. I wanted to get real here and share how much I make podcasting. I’d love if anyone else wanted to as well. I know some newer podcasters get discouraged in this subreddit when they just start out. I thought that it could be helpful for people to see that it can take a while to build to something you can make money off of, but being consistent can be worth it!
