First priority is to get rid of as much debt as you can if you have any. That goes for any recession but it's hard to tell what exactly a Trumps tariff plans will do in the short term so having extra cash available for when you need it is a good idea. Answer from Leafstride on reddit.com

Hi. Any thoughts on steps to think about for the next 4 years? I’m not asking about moving out of the US, but financial primarily. Unless y’all think of other serious things one should plan for…. I’m 10 years from retirement age, not poor but not wealthy. Right now retirement looks doable on our (wife and my) savings, but we won’t be living high on the hog. Heck, maybe in the US that puts me in the upper class.

President Elect Trump has already vowed to “launch the largest deportation program in American history” on day-1 of his presidency. Deporting millions of immigrants in 4 years is almost certainly impossible and would cost hundreds of billions of dollars, but the effort to do so will undoubtedly ensnare many immigrants in years-long legal battles. We recommend immigrants, both documented and undocumented, prepare for Trump’s second term as follows:

Hi ladies! :)

I hope this post isn't too general, but how are you all prepping for another Trump presidency? Besides researching how to leave the country if necessary, I don't know what else to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Tariffs, deregulation, and a bunch of other stuff will result in everything getting more expensive, running out, and decreasing in safety/quality. Stock up on items now, replace or fix equipment and tech, etc. Women's reproductive rights and healthcare will be impacted. Stock up on menstrual products, plan B, medicine, go get medically checked out, etc. Personal safety. If you're comfortable with a gun, try to get one. Otherwise, see what options are available to you.

Think about what aspects of that administration are likely to impact you and your family most deeply. The administration itself might be a threat to democracy, but there's nothing you can do about that. But what about policies relative to contraception and birth? What about food supplies you care about? What about access to specific medications or medical protocols? Having a more specific idea of the problems you want to address can make it a lot easier to come up with tactical ways of addressing them. I'm a white transgender woman of upper-middle-class financial privilege. I'm particularly concerned about: My physical safety (both out on the street, and in the case of 'reeducation' protocols' My access to hormones My bureaucratic safety (ensuring that I can have credentials that reflect my identity The trustworthiness of the food chain, under threat due to potential deregulation The privatization of public resources And a whole lot of other stuff that I may or may not be able to actually prepare for. With that list in place, I was able to come up with some actionable steps to feel better about my future. I got training on and purchased firearms, both for self-defense, and to learn how to hunt. I got 1+ years ahead on my estrogen prescription. I ensured that all of my paperwork at the state and federal levels reflected my legal gender. I learned how to garden and am growing a lot of my own food... next on the list is meat rabbits. I also began stocking non-perishable foods. I spend a lot of time learning about and volunteering with local organizations that care for public resources (my neighborhood association, my local watershed council, my state's hunter's assocation, etc). I'm also having serious conversations with family, friends, and neighbors about 'what if', and forming intentional community in advance of catastrophe, so that I know what I can count on from others, and they know what they can count on from me. You can't just PREP FOR ALL OF THE THINGS!!!! It's not possible. So instead, pick 3-4 particular threats that carry the most concern, and focus on those. That will a) help you make some quick progress, and b) help you develop some muscle tone around 'how to prep'. The next steps will make themselves clear when you need them.

October 26, 2025 - Expanding this support and turning a blind eye to international lawbreaking activities would be challenging for other nations. Similarly, the potential loss of the US as a democratic beacon would be significant. An example is Trump’s recent “joke” about near-dictatorial powers, with him indicating that 2024 would be the last time Americans need vote in a presidential election. US allies need to be prepared for a growing misalignment around freedoms, surveillance, extradition and restrictions on free trade.
