First of all I'm not confused about how this letter is pronounced. I've been taught it's the former pronunciation all along and none of the dictionaries recognise the latter. But I observed there has been an increasing surge of people, many YouTubers included, that adopted the /heɪtʃ/ pronunciation, which vexed me to no end. I even saw some teachers of English pronounced the letter like that, which is alarming to say the least.

I have never heard someone from the US pronounce it in the latter form, except as a joke over-Britishism. It is relatively common in the UK. Both seem to be usual forms, and I imagine you'd be understood most of the time with either as well. I'm not sure if you're joking or just being a little over formal, but to find a pronounciation "vexing" or "alarming" is a somewhat excessively strong response, I think.

Hi Ronnie you were great as always and this time you earns an extra point for your beautiful hair that’s always nice but especially in this video ! Interesting thing about the R’s, you did a nice job explaining it. The thing to know is that São Paulo’s pronunciation of the letter R is similar to the american R because of the foreign influence and I know that they fancy looking and speaking like americans. In the rest of the country we pronounce the letter R like the H with some variations depending on the region.

October 28, 2020 - French added the "ch" because the original name of the letter H /ha/ lost its H in French and became identical to A /a/! ... There's a long linguistic history of adding and removing spoken hs from the front of words.
