I'm wondering about how to go about dealing with the notched corner.

June 24, 2022 - All of the reupholstery diy videos I've seen involve adding batting and fabric over a flat seat and stretching it tightly before securing it with staples on the underside. Stretching anything tight over the curves of this seat would create a kind of "tent" effect with the fabric being 100% level to the highest points of the pieces I'm covering, but the curve is the only thing about these chairs that I actually like lol.

January 31, 2025 - Cut at a 45 almost into the corner on each notch, stretch the two sides one at a time, staple them finish with the middle section, don’t over stretch material though ... Here is the Y shape cut. These can be tricky so I would use a scrap piece of fabric to practice. If you have the original seat fabric, you can follow the previous upholster’s cuts.

March 12, 2014 - NOTE: Watch out for this issue with the corners - if you don't pull the fabric tight all the way to the corner - you can end up with these wrinkles at the corner. This occurs when you pull the final flap over the corner. I found myself re-doing several corners when I noticed this, but this one slipped by me... (you can see wrinkles on the back corner of the chair on the photo below).

Here's one type of corner you can make. Simply pull the fabric corner at the seat corner and fold in two pleats. the pleats will either show or not show depending on the thickness of your filling. Anymore than about 2" will need to be either boxed or the corners cut out and sewn.

February 2, 2012 - The inside corners are shaped like an "L". I've just finished the muslin cover, and it doesn't look hideous, but I'd like to get the finish fabric to look better. The seat actually sits on top of the chair frame, rather than dropping down into it, so all of the edges show.

May 12, 2018 - Cut a small tail straight out from the corner leaving just enough material to cover around the edge of board when its warped. cut a little less than a 90 degree pie section out on both sides of the tail.

October 18, 2004 - Now that is ready to glue on to the board. I use a spray glue. Than take the fabric or leather and put 4 holding tack or staples on each side. Than working your way around the chair seat on each size about an inch apart tack or staple.

That kind of seat covering is not difficult to do. You can cover right over the existing fabric or you can remove the old fabric, before applying the new. Inspect the padding, to make sure it is in good shape. You may want to add to the existing padding, also.
