September 22, 2025 - Repeat this process to cut out each fabric section. Transfer the markings for direction, welting, and seams onto the new pieces with chalk. If preferred, combine the chair reupholstery pieces into covers for the seat and back that can be applied all at once.

August 11, 2018 - First, take the piece of chip board that came off of the chair, and use it as a pattern to cut out a new piece of chip board. Next, use spray adhesive to attach the foam to the chip board. **Note: If the old foam isn’t in good enough shape to reuse, simply use the old foam as a pattern to cut out a new piece of foam the same thickness, and then use either scissors or the process outlined on the diamond-tufted headboard tutorial to cut out the holes for the buttons.

January 28, 2022 - Then use the marker to draw little ... one or 2 more hash marks in along the straight seams too. Pull the buttons out and snip them off and mark where they were attached....

You’ll understand it better once you see the tufting starting to go into position. Start by pushing the fabric into the top two holes you cut out in the foam…allowing extra fabric in the middle. You can play with it and adjust it as you go.

July 7, 2023 - Repeat on the opposite side, then continue stapling the fabric in place along the backrest and arms of the chair.To create the button tufting, use the button twine to sew through the foam, batting, and fabric at the marked spots.

June 8, 2012 - A simple slip knot is all that is needed to attach buttons to your fabric of choice, whether you are working with a woven material or leather. Remove old upholstery material from the chair frame.

August 17, 2012 - Then tie a single knot around the eye of the button. Pull it tight, and make sure that the single knot is resting right up against the double knot that you tied in the end of the cord. Trim off the excess cord. Now thread the other end of the cord through the eye of your upholstery needle. From the bottom of the chair, use a bamboo skewer to make a hole through the foam, batting, and fabric.

For the vertical lines, I had the buttons on the sides relate to the stripe, so they curved down and in towards the seat. Then I got out my lethal upholstery needles!!!!! Chose one that would be long enough to stick through the back of the chair.....

If you're having trouble taking apart your chair or replacing the batting, don't fret. Instead of ruining your chair, consider hiring a professional. From here, you'll need to hire a reupholsterer.

August 29, 2023 - Also, as you dismantle the upholstery ... you have some wiggle room. If you need to tuft the chair, just cut out the buttons with a razor blade and leave them in tact....

July 10, 2023 - Just need a needle, string, stapler and your button. I doubt the underside of your cushion has fabric. The leather should be stapled along the underside of the whole cushion. Simply thread the string through the button and needle.
