November 8, 2023 - I do have a few pieces on my blog that are milk painted but I didn’t fall in love with it. Although, I do still plan to do a few more pieces with it! (I have more samples to use over here and want to try a few things) Of course I started out using wax to seal Chalk Paint because that is how I was told to do it.

Hi all, looking for some advice please!
I’m trying to upcycle an old TV unit. My second project, first was a disaster so I’m a bit apprehensive about it.
I’m painting it with a couple of coats of Rustoleum chalk paint. As the surface of this is going to be used (obviously to place TV etc) I’m thinking I will need to seal it? But with what?
Researching on Google is very conflicting. Seal it, don’t seal it. Use wax, avoid wax. Paint it, spray it etc...
Can anyone give me some advice so my painted piece will last and handle the usual wear and tear? I am based in U.K.

Since you are using rustoleum, you shouldn't need to seal it because it has an acrylic base. Real chalk paint is made with milk and borax and does need to be sealed.

Just did a paint job on a bedroom set in chalk paint. The rustoleum chalk clear coat actually came out really nicely. I did not want to have to wax the furniture so I chose this over all other methods and really like the results especially the durability and ability to clean it easier.
