Sigh, I'm in the same boat. Previously, the supported procedure REQUIRED Godaddy for your registrar. Recently MS announced that they are no longer going to offer new custom domains starting in 2023. Apparently you can set one up prior to the cutoff date and they will let you use the custom domain. Personally, I don't want to use Godaddy and I don't want to be in some kind of unsupported position eventually so my plan is to go with a different host someday.
