If you're not trolling, Furmark doesn't stop. It's supposed to be a stress test, that you run for a while to see what your max temperatures are. Typically you run the card for about 30 minutes, and if it doesn't have any failures, it's a good card. If you've run it for 14 hours, and it hasn't failed, you've certainly got a good card. Record the max temp of the card, then end the run. Answer from What_is_a_reddot on reddit.com

FurMark, when to stop? | Tom's Hardware Forum
March 13, 2012 - Couple of hours for Furmark using Xtreme Burn in mode @ Highest native resolution. Make sure AA isn't on too high - If you're running Furmark below 10fps ish it can throttle the cards and miss instabilities.

How long should I let furmark run ?
Theres no definitive answer, the goal of furmark is to (A) test temperature performance and (B) stability under an extreme synthetic load. So to claim a success for (A) you need to run furmark until your cooling solution is heat saturated (the max temperature it get to under load) at your desired cooling speed. Heat saturation can be different especially comparing a large liquid cooled loop vs a gpu stock air cooler. To claim a success for (B) you need to pass (A) ie not overheat and have no occurrences of crashing. So the tl;dr answer is test it until your gpu temperature does not keep increasing. There's no set time as it will depend on your cards cooling solution. More on reddit.com

SO's PC Shutting down after Furmark Test
Can you get a program such as msi afterburner/hwinfo and look at your cpu/gpu temps? Or even just go into the bios and see what the cpu is running at. Another thing would be to reseat all the psu cables and check you've not missed any, as well as booting with one stick of ram to see if that helps. More on reddit.com

Furmark based tests, Yea or Nay?
Furmark is pretty much useless for testing OC stability. Due to the extreme power draw, it forces clockspeeds to throttle, so you end up testing much lower than your max frequency. 3Dmark + Unigen benchmarks are my go to, much better representation of real world usage. More on reddit.com

How to use Furmark to test a GPU | CORSAIR
March 19, 2025 - At this point you might be asking, “What’s the point of using this app if all it does is put your GPU in a hurt locker?!” It is good for testing GPU and system stability that is GPU-centric, so it can tell you if your system is stable with the graphics card pegged at 100%. That said, if your GPU has not been modified from its stock settings, it should be fine and there is no need to test it for stability. Furmark is what's known as a "synthetic benchmark", which means the torture it puts your GPU through is completely unlike anything it will encounter during normal use.

r/buildapc on Reddit: SO's PC Shutting down after Furmark Test
March 2, 2024 -

Thank you for giving your time to help me with this.

I am new to building PC and built a PC for my SO for her first PC. When she played BG3, her PC suddenly shuts down after opening a New Game. I am confused to why is this happening. I tried running Furmark to stress test the GPU and bam, after 1-2 minutes of stress testing, her PC suddenly shut down. For reference, she's using these specs for her PC :

CPU : i5 14600kf

GPU : RTX4070 Gigabyte Windforce OC

PSU : Corsair RM750e 80+ Gold

RAM : VENGEANCE LPX Series 32GB

Motherboard : Asrock B760M Pro RS/D4 WiFi

CPU Cooler : Thermalright Peerless Assasin 120SE

I don't know if this is helpful but the Motherboard's PSC (Post Status Checker) in the VGA, DRAM, BOOT section turns red when booting and it turns off after finishing boot up.

Kinda sad that my GF's first PC experience will be this. I feel really bad and want to make it up to her by fixing it if possible.

Do you guys/girls have any idea what's causing this?

Just as I am typing this, the PC shutdown by itself in the lockscreen after restarting by itself.

edit: grammar

edit 2 : Ran a Furmark CPU Burner test for 2 minutes and it didn't shut down

edit 3 : Changed RTX4060 to RTX4070 cause my brains fried
