Can a locked MacBook be unlocked?
How do you unlock a MacBook if you forgot the password?
I had a company Macbook pro but the company went into administration and all employees were just left their company property as it apparently wasnโt worth the costs to get employees to ship their equipment back.
All laptops were wiped and that was that really. Iโve never had a use for the laptop and itโs just been sitting for a year. I recently decided to try and make use of it but I have no way to get onto it. We were all given the same pin after they were wiped if we ever decided to use the laptops for personal use, however when Iโve tried logging in it asks for a username and password rather than just a code to unlock it, and have asked the old administrators what to do and they said there was no need for a username or password to log back in after they were wiped but Iโm not being given another option.
Was hoping someone might be able to help advise on how I get back onto the laptop without any log in details? Itโs a shame as otherwise it will just sit and continue not to be used and thereโs no point in me giving it away as someone else will have the same problem.
Thank you for any help in advance!
If you are indeed locked out due to the FirmwarePasswordUtility preventing you from Internet Recovery mode, and cannot manage figuring out what your password is, there is still a last resort option.
Assuming you do actually own, and can prove you own the Mac, an official Apple Store can remove the firmware password and help you with restoring the computer to working condition.
This lock is by design. It allows the owner to prevent anyone that canโt prove they own the hardware from getting Apple or other service professionals to erase the lock.
See https://www.apple.com/icloud/find-my-iphone/ and especially the Mac link at the bottom.
You now have a firmware password on that Mac preventing you from changing the OS to boot from other sources. You can either enter the passcode that was created to lock the hardware or follow the normal process when you forget a firmware password by seeking authorized service.
