The 2.5mm port on the headphones is only for receiving output from the audio playing device, for example from a 3.5mm-connected PC or other aux cable. To my knowledge, it can't send input from the headphones to an exterior device. That said, if anything is plugged into that port, no matter what is plugged into the other end, the bluetooth mode (including the headset profile that allows the microphone) will be disabled. What I do is plug the headphones into my system with the 2.5-to-3.5mm cable plugged from my headphones into my PC, then use my Yeti microphone as the input device. Depending on what system you're using, if you're using them in bluetooth mode, the headphones will show up as both a "Headphones" output-only device and a "Headset" device for both input and output. For example, on Windows 11: Open the Control Panel and click through "Hardware and Sound", then "Manage audio devices" under the "Sound" section. In this, it will show the Headphones under the "Playback" tab, and the Headset under the "Recording" tab. To disable the communication mode, go to the "Recording" tab and right-click the "Headset" for your QC 35, then select "Disable." ...or in Android: Open the "Connected devices" screen from the Bluetooth settings. Tap the gear icon next to your headphones name (such as "LE-QC 35" or some such). Tap the toggle switch to disable the "Phone calls" usage, and ensure that the "Media audio" and "HD audio" options are enabled. This will connect the headphones with only the audio profile, but no microphone. Answer from codergeek42 on reddit.com

r/bose on Reddit: How to use Bose QC 35's with mic, without communication mode.
June 7, 2023 -

I have a pair of Bose Quiet Comfort 35's and would like to be able to use them on programs like discord. The problem is that they go into communication mode and sound terrible. I understand that there is no way around this in-terms of tampering with settings or whatever, but if I was to purchase a 2.5-mm mic to plug directly into my QC's, would this allow me to use a mic without communication mode enabled?

If not, could someone please recommend a simple, cheap, setup to use a 3rd party mic with the QC's (without having to have communication mode enabled.

Any advice is highly appreciated!

r/bose on Reddit: Bose QC35 II doesn't go into pairing mode anymore - possible solution
January 7, 2020 -

I got a new phone and removed the QC35 II from the old phone.

When I wanted to put the QC35 II into pairing mode (moving the switch on the right all the way to the right) that didn't work. It also didn't work to clear the paired device list as well as to pair using NFC.

It turns out that for some reason the switch does not move far enough to the right to enable the pairing mode. By removing the metal cover on the right side I got direct access to the switch on the board. From there I could move it all the way to the right and got the QC35 II into pairing mode.

I think over time the switch wears out and either needs a complete replacement or some lubrication.

The problem remains, but at least I was able to connect my new phone. Pairing is now possible again over the Bose Connect app.
