You could take the first character from Scanner.next:
char c = reader.next().charAt(0);
To consume exactly one character you could use:
char c = reader.findInLine(".").charAt(0);
To consume strictly one character you could use:
char c = reader.next(".").charAt(0);

Setup scanner:
reader.useDelimiter("");
After this reader.next() will return a single-character string.

How to input char in java using scanner?
You cannot take a whole line of text as input from the user with this method. For example, if I were to input "Hello World!", the input would be only Hello. This is again because it takes only one word as an input string. Note that the input can also be one letter because it'll still be treated as a string. Moving on to charAt() method. This method returns a character of a string at a specified index. Like most programming languages, java ... More on sololearn.com

I don't believe you can literally take a char input but you can take the char of a line input at position 0 Just going from memory but I believe the command you want is char myChar = myScanner.next().charAt(0) E: ps don't forget chars are primitive types so compare with == not .equals() More on reddit.com

In addition to the @Suspicious User's answer, i don't know if can be helpful because i did not understand preciously what you want to do, but if it is something like:
120.340.0.1
120.340.0.2
...
120.340.1.1
120.340.1.2
... and so on checking all possible combinations, you could use a nested loop and make it a bit cleaner:

you can use a Scanner to read from input :
Scanner scanner = new Scanner(System.in);
char c = scanner.next().charAt(0); //charAt() method returns the character at the specified index in a string. The index of the first character is 0, the second character is 1, and so on.

One common application of character input handling is in the creation of character-based menus. In this scenario, users are presented with a list of options, and they can select an option by entering a corresponding character. Here's an example: import java.util.Scanner; public class CharacterMenuExample { public static void main(String[] args) { Scanner scanner = new Scanner(System.in); char choice; do { System.out.println("Welcome to the Character Menu:"); System.out.println("A.
