Be careful! NFC active means your watch is open to ghost payments. Someone easily steals your info and uses it to shop. Better to shut it off and only turn on for seconds to pay, then back off. Answer from MentalFinish5065 on reddit.com

Hey there! Just saw your question on Reddit about Google Wallet and NFC. You actually don't need NFC on your phone to use Google Wallet on your Samsung Galaxy Watch 4! Since your watch does have NFC, it can handle the contactless payments all on its own. You just need to have the Google Wallet app set up on both your phone and your watch. Here's how you can add a credit card to Google Wallet on your Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 (which runs Wear OS): Open the Google Wallet app on your watch. You should find it in your app drawer. Tap "Get started" or "Add a card." You'll likely see an option to "Add a payment card." Tap on that. Follow the on-screen prompts. You'll probably be asked to set up a screen lock (like a PIN) on your watch for security if you haven't already. You'll have a few ways to add your card: Add from your phone: This is usually the easiest. Your watch will prompt you to open the Google Wallet app on your phone to complete the process. Follow the instructions on your phone to link your card to your watch. Enter card details manually: You can also manually enter your credit card number, expiration date, CVV, and billing address directly on your watch. This can be a bit fiddly on the small screen, so using your phone is generally recommended. Verify your card. Your bank or card issuer might require you to verify your card. This could involve receiving a text message, email, or phone call with a verification code that you'll need to enter on your watch or phone. Once your card is added and verified, you're all set! You can then make contactless payments directly from your Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, even if your phone is at home or doesn't have NFC. Just wake your watch, open Google Wallet (or sometimes it will automatically prompt you when near a payment terminal), and hold it near the contactless payment reader. Let me know if you run into any snags!

You need to fill a virtual card number there, not the real card number, check your bank website or app if they have some instructions

Paying on the Go? Go For Google Pay
March 14, 2024 - Even better, Google Pay keeps everything protected thanks to Google Wallet, which is a whole other thing that deserves a blog of its own, but simply put also lets you store loyalty cards, concert tickets and even your car keys as well as your payment cards. We should point out, though – you can only use Google Pay on devices that have NFC capabilities, as this is the tech that the app uses to make contactless payments. You can still use it to pay online without NFC, but not in person.

Can Google Wallet Work Without Wi-Fi or Mobile Data?
February 23, 2025 - When you add a bank card to Google Wallet, the app downloads a few one-use tokens from your card issuer that essentially represent your payment card. These codes are securely stored on your device and transmitted to the contactless terminals when you pay for something. The terminal does all the heavy lifting. It uses the token to communicate with the bank server and complete the transaction. So, you don't really need the internet to pay with NFC, as nothing except the encrypted one-use code is being transmitted...

July 3, 2012 - I was confused by Google Wallet at first until I learned you can use NFC to pay for things at hundreds of thousands of PayPass locations around the US. I now prefer to carry my Galaxy Nexus since it is one of the only devices that reliably supports Google Wallet. Since I started using it though, I have learned of several other ways to pay for things with your mobile phone without the need for NFC technology.

December 20, 2023 - Once the one-time code is used, it no longer represents your card in any way, nor can it be traced back to your card’s data. What makes using Google Wallet offline work is how the one-time code system works. Rather than pulling a code from servers and utilizing it for one transaction at that moment, those unique codes are stored on your device. Once you go offline, your phone can use Google Wallet’s NFC-transmitted codes with no problem at all.
