I get this message "Want Opus 4.5? Run /upgrade to get the Max plan or /extra-usage to turn on extra usage"

Pro user here. I can access Opus 4.5 in the standard Claude (non-code) Web UI, but not in Claude Code CLI. Seems strange, especially as the Opus usage chart has disappeared and been rolled-in to the standard limits according to my Usage page, and others report Opus 4.5 being lighter and cheaper.

Even after updating Claude code I'm still only limited to Sonnet. I'm pretty new at this, so any help would be appreciated.

Opus is only for max plan in claude code. You can use opus in the desktop app though toghether with a file-system mcp.

I wonder why my Usage page on my Pro account says the following and yet I can't switch to the model: Updates to usage limits: November 24, 2025 We've removed the Opus cap so you can use Opus 4.5 up to your overall limit. You can also now purchase extra usage for access to Opus 4.5 in Claude Code. We may continue to adjust limits as we learn how usage patterns evolve over time.

unfortunately not, you need Max in order to use Opus 4.5 on Claude Code.

The cheapest to try opus now is x1 on copilot for 10$.
