Sorry to be ignorant but can someone explain how Apple TV works and what it does? I have a smart tv so would getting Apple TV offer me anything extra.

It’s basically apples interface/ecosystem on its own hardware. I find my TV interface unfriendly to use and prefer the Apple TV for streaming shows. More on reddit.com

How do I get the Apple TV app on Apple TV to remember which streaming service to play through.

I would be interested in this as well if someone has found an answer for this. I have this problem with Hulu and Disney Plus. I’ve switched to watching everything in Disney Plus but it will sometimes prompt me to reinstall Hulu rather than use Disney Plus even if I watched the prior episode in Disney Plus More on reddit.com

(yes ik I might be breaking the rule about don’t talk about the Apple TV app but there’s no better place to post this)

A series I am watching right now is on both Crunchyroll and Amazon Prime Video. When I open it through the Apple TV app on “Up Next”, I want it to always play the series in Amazon Prime Video, NOT crunchyroll because it’s included with my prime Video subscription. However, often it will “forget” that I usually play it through prime video and instead decide to play on crunchyroll instead, and then I have to go back to the series, click “go to episode” and then click open in prime video. It keeps forgetting every 2 days or so and it drives me insane. Also it does this on my iPad too.

Is there any way to tell it which service I want it to play through? Thanks.

So I always just go to the app to watch my shows. If a show is on Crunchyroll I use that app. Am I doing it wrong?
