Can someone please help me dumb down the idea of how to write a hypothesis?

CMV: Making a hypothesis before conducting a science experiment does more harm than good (creates potential bias to change the result or the original hypothesis)
Writing a proposal in a "hypothesis style" vs. "investigatory style"
A hypothesis, if written well and coupled with good experiments, will reveal something new with or without positive experimental results. What they are looking for is a statement to test your theory regarding a currently poorly understood problem, and what you would learn after obtaining either positive or negative results (you need to discuss both). If your work is computational in nature, you can list reasons why you are likely to be successful and achieve positive results.
I'm not sure what a negative result in computational work would correspond to, other than the program or basis set not being a good match for your particular problem.

I'm just taking an introductory course in biology and while I understand what a hypothesis is, I'm just really confused on how to translate an observation into something testable. (youtube hasn't really helped make it more clear to me)
For instance, I noticed that there was a greater variety of fungi in my local park vs. all the other parks ive been to in my city. How could I turn something as simple as that into a hypothesis? Should I say something like: There are more fungi/mushrooms in densely forested parks? would that be okay?
