Let the laptop boot into Windows. When you've reached the login screen, hold down the Shift key while clicking Restart. You can release the shift key when Windows says "please wait". You will eventually be shown a screen with some options. Click "Troubleshoot" > "Advanced options" > "UEFI Firmware Settings" > "Restart". Windows will then restart directly into your BIOS. I just bought a laptop through Amazon, which came with Windows 11 installed.
I want to get rid of that. I have an Ubuntu image burned onto a USB stick, but it won't boot from that by default.
When I reboot the machine, it shows no instructions for accessing the BIOS, just the stupid hp logo. I tried tapping both del and f12 repeatedly, to no avail. A quick google search suggested using f2 or f12 upon seeing the logo screen. I did try both, but to no avail.
Any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong?

Start up PC to windows. Then, hold the shift key down, click the shut down icon, and click restart. Hold shift for a few more seconds for good luck while it restarts. You'll get a menu of options, you want something along the lines of "boot options"

Basically I’m locked out of my laptop (or rather a laptop given to me by a family member who can’t remember their password)
So I’ve been trying to boot into the BIOS, but it hasn’t been working. I can’t get into the BIOS any other way because I can’t log in.
I signed into the WiFi and tried to type the wrong password in multiple times to see if it would prompt me with a password reset, but it just says I’m offline... and I am not because I see the signal says I’m connected.
On a laptop with Windows 10, how do I boot into the BIOS? If it’s with one of the F keys, do I need to hold down ‘fn’ along with the proper F key?
I’ve tried holding down f2, f6, f8, and f10 but it just boots normally. What’s going on??

What is the laptop model. You can normally find what key invokes bios using google However, if laptop is uefi particularly with fastboot, it can be really tricky getting to bios. One way that usually works is to boot from a usb installation drive and use the repair my pc option to get to bios assuming bios is set to boot from usb drive or dvd first. In some cases, removing the hard drive first works, as then pc will search and boot from usb drive. Once you get to bios this way, change boot order to boot from usb/dvd first, and turn off fastboot as appropriate. Then you can replace hard drive and reboot. Another way is to remove the CMOS battery but this can be really difficult on a laptop and you probably would need to get a computer repair expert to help.
