HP laptop and automatic Bios update? - Hardware & Infrastructure - Spiceworks Community
What is the deal with HP or Microsoft pushing automatic BIOS updates?
It is common practice now to push critical updates via capsule. 20H1 introduced API to update even some subcomponents. The mechanism is part of UEFI spec and every manufacturer and OS vendor is taking a use of it.
If the notebook is bricked, file a support case. The only time I saw notebook getting bricked is when it was turned off mid process. There is no recovery procedure on consumer segment as far as I know

I have a friend who is not computer savvy and apparently microsoft or hp pushes a BIOS UPDATE! and pretty much bricked his laptop. Not even creating USB recovery works because the laptop is impossible to access and remove the battery for a regular person.
What the hell, HP!

Best guess he turned off his laptop while updating.
The reason Microsoft using this type of update is most of them are critical from a security perspective.
