hp laptop bios menu has no boot options
It sounds like you might be booting into HP's diagnostics rather than the bios. Perhaps check the details for your specific laptop to confirm you are using the right key combination to enter the bios. Sometimes fast boot is enabled so the timing of the key combination is also critical. Do you have a linux install ready to go on a usb? If so can you could try the boot options key at startup with this to see if booting from usb is already enabled by default. Booting from cd is also another option. Failing all this you can try removing the hard disk and installing GNU/Linux to it while connected to another system...this last option is not the best as the install may recognize the hardware it was connected to at the time and you could be messing about with having to change the installed drivers and settings later...but it is a possibility if you cannot find another option that works. (Edit: Looking this up online it seems installing in another system and then swapping the disk over is feasible - although there appear to be a few caveats to ensuring this option would work - including things like installing to a system with the same CPU architecture and that the system you are installing to has the same or more memory etc).
