This happened for months and months. Taking my computer back to the beginning would be nearly impossible, because I don't even recall WHEN it actually started.
Why does Microsoft consider this a good solution? If the updates caused problems, there should be fixes. Yes, I know there are many many problems and many many different configurations of Windows 10. Is it fair to your customers to tell them THEY have to fix the problems they had nothing to do with causing?
Should updates be divided into those that are related to Antivirus, Adware, Malware, etc., and those that are "supposed to" change the operating system, so customers can automatically run the updates for the safety issues, and not the operating system changes that seem to be parsed with problems!

Hi Answer. I'm Greg, an eleven years awarded MVP, Volunteer Moderator, and Independent Advisor here to help you until this is resolved.
There are a billion users of WIndows 10. Every one has a different hardware configuration and different quality of install. The most important thing we have found in WIndows 10 is the quality of the underlying Windows install, upon which everything depends and Microsoft has no control over. That said, there are too many problems with Windows Updates so let's start there:
- See if you can System Restore to a point before the problem began following this guide: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-use-system-r...
System Restore is your first line of defense and can take you back to a point before a problem began. If it doesn't help then you can undo it. Read about it first in the tutorial above and then try restoring to just before this started.
If the problem repeats or System Restore doesn't work then check which Windows Updates were installed at Settings > Update & Security > Windows Updates > Update History, uninstall them there or System Restore again, then immediately check for and block the Updates with the Hide Updates tool explained here: https://www.howtogeek.com/223864/how-to-uninsta...
- Run the Printer Troubleshooter from Windows Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
- If that doesn't help then I would Clean Install the printer which always works, lasts longer and actually saves time. Windows still needs the full feature software to properly run all the features of a printer/scanner, the new apps are not mature enough to be fully reliable. Follow these steps:
- Power up the printer, if wired unplug it's USB cable from PC.
- Go to Settings>Apps>Apps and Features to find and Uninstall any printer software.
- Use one of these methods to remove all of the old printer drivers:
https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/101274-unin...
https://helpdeskgeek.com/how-to/remove-uninstal...
- Now type Control Panel in Start Search, open CP, choose Icon View. In Control Panel open Devices and Printers, right click printer to delete Printer and any scanner or fax of the same name. Restart PC.
- Go to the printer model’s Support Downloads webpage to download and install the latest full software package. Now is also the time to check for any newer printer firmware to install which matters a lot.
- Extract Printer software, right click Setup file to Run as Administrator. Follow the setup screens closely as you install the software. For USB it should prompt when to plug in the printer.
Older software may need to be installed in Compatibility Mode to run correctly:

https://www.windowscentral.com/how-install-olde...
If you have further problems reply back with results of each step.
Once it's installed and you've run a test print, then scanned it to see that it opens on the desktop, open the Printer software and go into its Settings to set the scan-to file location you prefer, also the email app you want opened for Scan to Email, if applicable.
I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. If you will wait to rate my post until we are done, I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

Hi to all!
Here is what I need help with. My W10 system / HP Envy 7800 series will NOT print, unless I spend hours (and I am not exagerating) fiddling around with it. I don't HAVE hours of time to spend every time I need to print a page of something, but nothing I have tried has ever provided a permanent fix. This is what I see:
HP is connected to my home network, getting a strong signal. Windows10 says it is offline. Then it informs me that there is an app for this device (HP Smart). I open HP Smart and it continually asks me if I will allow the app to make changes to my device. Every 30 seconds or so I get that message until I close it. I've tried MS and HP troubleshooters and zippo. But as a result of the troubleshooters I have: restarted, unplugged, plugged back in, reset the modem, uninstalled the printer, reinstalled the printer, uninstalled HPSmart, reinstalled it, tried the 5G and 2.4G channels, cleared the spool, checked the drivers (according to the computer - I have the most updated drivers) and everything else that has been suggested. Recently I tried to change the port and now NOTHING I do has helped - possibly because I don't understand ports (PROBably, haha).
Of course, nothing is still under warranty so I'm considering purchasing a service to fix this, unless one of you can ride up on a silver horse with a list of suggestions.
A) are there any recommended services that you guys have used successfully? and
B) - is there - somewhere - a comprehensive list of ALL the settings that have to be right, in order for a printer to work?
THANKS FOR READING THIS FAR!!
